Relapse: Nocturnal – Another Story of collaborative Success

Relapse: Nocturnal – Another Story of collaborative Success

“Relapse: Nocturnal” – A timelapse portrait of Las Vegas would have never been made if it weren’t for the power of the internet and social media. It’s crazy to think that I have never heard of the co-creator Ryan Killackey just a few month ago! Ryan added me on Facebook after we exchanged links on a Planet5D podcast. He was impressed by “Nightscapes” and I was by his video “A Day in California”. He told me all about his projects and we exchanged messages on Facebook and Twitter and with NAB just around the corner in Vegas, we met up at the Zacuto Booth at NAB2012! The idea was to create a short timelapse film and showcase Las Vegas in a way it hasn’t been done before. We searched the internet, youtube, vimeo, everything, to see that there is no video quite like this online!

There is one mentionable video by Mr. Philip Bloom, called “24 hours of Neon”, but that’s it! And that video takes a completely different approach as opposed to ours, but nonetheless is absolutely fantastic.Ryan and I had 2 nights to shoot this! I shot some footage with my Canon T2i alone the day before and we ended up using all of  it, but after we watched Tom Lowe’s Timescapes on Tuesday, we teamed up to shoot the main part of the film on the strip! Ryan brought loads of gear to the table. We shot with his Canon 5D Mark III and used his Slidetracked Dolly for all the motion control shots! While the dolly isn’t 100% perfect, it works really well and is the most affordable system out there! On top of that, I am sure they will perfect it over time! Thumbs up to Slidetracked! The footage speaks for itself!

While this is a personal project, we are aiming at creating timelapse videos for different cities and make them part of the “Relapse” series. So if you are interested in getting a video for your city done, use the contact tab on top of the page to contact me!
